attends the World Affairs Council Conference on Thursday, January 17, 2019

Winslow Township High School Model United Nations Club attended the World Affairs Council 2019 Model United Nations Conference at Camden County College on Thursday, January 17, 2019. This year’s program explored the topic of Ending Food Insecurity in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs specifically call for ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture globally.  In preparation for this conference, students researched food insecurity as members of country delegations and prepared position papers which included specific information about their assigned country and its relationship to the issue. Students then collaboratively developed resolutions which recommended specific solutions and actions to be taken to end food insecurity. Specific clauses were chosen from the student submitted resolutions to construct a final resolution, which they then reviewed, debated, amended, and passed at the World Affairs Conference.  At the conference, students demonstrated their knowledge of parliamentary procedure as they engaged with delegates from other schools to develop an actionable resolution.

Many of our student delegates successfully earned awards for their efforts!! Congratulations to Tayon Collier for earning the Outstanding Delegate Award for this conference! Congratulations to Timyra Henderson for having one of her clauses chosen for the the final resolution, and for earning an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Student Delegate and Outstanding Position Paper Award! Congratulations also go to Christine Bernetsky for earning an Honorable Mention Award for Outstanding Student Delegate! Awards for Outstanding Student Delegation were presented to Rileigh Leach and Dalyne Chea! Awards for Outstanding Position Paper were awarded to Heather McCarty, Angelina Schaefer, Paige Hudgins, Michelle An, Chelsea Householder, Lily Samoyan, Jazmin Matthews, Zamyra Gaines, and Ryan Keane!
