About the ELA and Mathematics Assessments (NJSLA-A)
Beginning this spring, statewide assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics will be computer-adaptive. This means the test adjusts in real time based on each student’s responses. Correct answers may lead to more challenging questions, while incorrect responses may result in less difficult ones. This adaptive format allows for a more precise measurement of each student’s understanding. While students will receive different sets of questions, all assessments are aligned to the same grade-level standards and expectations.
About the Science Assessment (NJSLA-S)
The science assessment remains a fixed-form test, meaning all students receive the same set of questions. Although it will be administered through the same online platform as the ELA and mathematics assessments, the format and content remain consistent with previous years.
Testing Procedures and Expectations
The high school will operate on a regular schedule during testing. All students are expected to report to school at their usual time, with testing beginning promptly at 7:19 a.m. Students who arrive late will not be admitted to their scheduled testing session and will be required to participate in a make-up session.
To support your child’s success, please ensure they get adequate rest, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive at school on time each day of testing.
Electronic devices—including iPods, iPads, laptops, smartphones, cell phones, smartwatches, AirPods, earbuds, headphones or any similar items are strictly prohibited in testing rooms. Possession of such devices during testing constitutes a violation of state testing security protocols and may result in serious disciplinary consequences. In addition, students are not permitted to bring personal items such as book bags, handbags, coats or jackets into the testing room. Students are encouraged to leave these items at home or secure them in their lockers upon arrival.
All students are required to bring their school issued Chromebook for testing. Please ensure that Chromebooks are fully charged and that charging cords are brought to school on testing days.
Additional Information
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s guidance counselor. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of your child’s education.
Sincerely,
Kurt Marella, Principal
